MPP Sandra Pupatello Secures Large Investments in Health Care Attacks by Drug Store Chains are Misleading!
When discussing health care in Ontario and in Windsor it is important to look at the facts. This is what MPP Sandra Pupatello and the McGuinty government have done to improve your health care system:

HOSPITAL FUNDING

Provincial

  • Hospital funding in Ontario has increased from $10.9 billion in 2003/04 to $15.4 billion in 09/10 – an overall 42% increase
  • Growth Funding for hospitals in rapidly growing communities totalled $30 million in 2008-09

Local

  • Windsor Regional Hospital received base funding of $184,036,087 in 09/10, a total increase of $63,936,362, or 53.2% since 2003
  • Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital received base funding of $160,125,750 in 09/10, a total increase of $17,203,450 or 12% since 2003.

WAIT TIMES

  • Windsor Regional Hospital received over $5.9 million in total funding from 2004/05-2008/09 to reduce wait times - that's 13,280 more procedures including general and paediatric surgeries.
  • At Windsor Regional Hospital nine out of ten patients have seen wait times go down:
    -Knee replacement by 75 days or 28%
    -CT (outpatient) by 27 days or 47%
    -Cancer Surgery by 47 days or 52%
  • At Hotel Dieu nine out of ten patients have seen wait times go down:
    -Cataract surgery down by 20 days or 27%
    -Hip replacement down by 110 days or 47%
    -Knee replacement down 42 days or 26%
    -CT down 92 days or 82%

LONG TERM CARE

  • 576 new and redeveloped LTC beds in Windsor in operation or announced since 2003

COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE

Province

  • CHCs are non-profit organizations that provide family health care and health promotion programs for individuals, families and communities.
  • Launched the largest expansion of Community Health Centres in Ontario’s history. We have added an additional 49 new Community Health Centres and satellites which are underway – doubling the amount of Community Health Centres in the province.
  • $130 million (92 per cent) increase to funding since 2003
  • $271.1 million in funding for Community Health Centres in 2008-09
  • Serving 70,000 more Ontarians since 2003

Local

  • Two CHCs serve Windsor, the Teen Health Centre and the Sandwich Community Health Centre.


FAMILY HEALTH TEAMS

Province

  • Created 150 Family Health Teams, teams of doctors, nurses and other health professionals working together to provide better care to their patients
  • Family Health Teams are already providing care to over 1.8 million Ontarians, including more than 200,000 that previously did not have a family doctor
  • Of these, 149 teams have started operation and hired over 1,086 new health professionals
  • We're adding 50 more Family Health Teams by 2011/12, targeting rural and underserviced communities

Local

  • There is 1 FHT, The Windsor FHT, serving the Windsor area.


EXPANDED CRITICAL CARE FACILITIES

  • Provided $ 1.95M in funding for Windsor Regional’s neonatal ICU, to provide critical care support to newborn babies
  • Provided $ 8.2M in operational funding for new angioplasty services to provide immediate and critical care to cardiac patients

NEW FACILITIES TO TRAIN MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS

  • Provided $ 11.7M in funding for a new medical school at the University of Windsor, to train the next generation of doctors who will serve our community
  • Provided $ 16M in funding for a new life sciences centre at St. Clair College, to train the next generation of nurses and medical professionals who will serve our community

WINDSOR REGIONAL CAPITAL PROJECT

  • Comprises both new construction (85,405 CGSF) and renovation (75,029 CGSF) and involves mainly two clinical or program areas: Rehabilitation and Specialized Mental Health (i.e., Longer Term Mental Health)
  • Rehabilitation: The size of the area being renovated for rehabilitation is 38,679 CGSF. The area will have capacity for up to 60 rehabilitation beds, for an increase of up to 10 beds by 2010/11.
  • Specialized Mental Health (i.e., Longer Term Mental Health): A new pavilion will house up to 59 specialized mental health beds that are being transferred as part of the program transfer (Tier II divestment) from St. Joseph's Health Care, London, plus an additional six beds for a total capacity of up to 65 specialized mental health beds, by 2010/11. The size of the area for the Specialized Mental Health program is 72,896 CGSF, comprised of 56,975 ft.² for new construction and 15,921 ft.² for renovated space.
  • Additionally, the project involves renovating 2,575 ft.² for a Learning and Clinical Information Education Centre for the mental health program.
