MPP Sandra Pupatello announces the launch of WE Pay It Forward
Sandra Pupatello, MPP Windsor West, today announced the launch of WE Pay It Forward, a new, first-of-its-kind, community initiative. A local steering committee, chaired by former Windsor Building Commissioner Ed Link, will explore how reclaimed materials from buildings slated for demolition for the construction of The Windsor-Essex Parkway can be recycled back into the community through charitable housing and improvement initiatives.

wepayitforward.ca is a web-based communications tool this group will depend on to gather and share information. Through this portal local community groups can tell the advisory group how they feel they can benefit from this initiative and explain their needs. Volunteers can also sign-up on this site and identify their skills and availability.

QUOTES

“This is a unique partnership for a once-in-a-generation project”, said Sandra Pupatello, MPP for Windsor West. This is Ontario’s opportunity to pay it forward so we are calling on our non-profit and charitable sector to tell us what they need. We are calling on volunteers to tell us how they can help. This is new territory for Ontario and we are figuring how we can provide the most benefit to the community. I want to thank the Ministry of Transportation, and specifically my colleague Minister Kathleen Wynne, for their willingness to support this pilot project.”

“This pilot of 30 properties will build the community capacity necessary to fully take advantage of hundreds of properties coming on stream, to find volunteers, identify needs, secure storage and Act to take advantage of this exciting opportunity,” said Ed Link, Chair, WE Pay it Forward.

The pilot project will be applied to both residential and business properties that will be demolished this summer. The advisory group will work closely with MTO to ensure that the delivery of this pilot project does not impact Windsor-Essex Parkway project timelines. For project inquiries, please contact Ed Link at (519) 982-8313.
