‘WE Pay It Forward’ Kicks Off Property Salvage Project
Windsor West MPP Sandra Pupatello, ‘WE Pay it Forward’ Committee Chair Ed Link, and Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex Inc. Laura Gould, kicked-off the
‘We Pay it Forward’ property salvage project today in Windsor. This first-of-its-kind, community initiative will reclaim materials from buildings slated for demolition for the construction of The Windsor-Essex Parkway, recycling them back into the community through charitable housing and improvement initiatives.

The pilot project includes 55 buildings, both residential and business properties that will be demolished this summer. The advisory group will work closely with MTO to ensure that the delivery of this pilot project does not impact Windsor-Essex Parkway project timelines.

This project will rely on the hard work of volunteers. The Windsor Essex community has embraced this initiative - 275 volunteers are ready to begin working. Those interested in volunteering or in learning more about this initiative can visit wepayitforward.ca.

QUOTES

“This truly is a once-in-a-generation project and I’m pleased we were able to come together so quickly to determine exactly how we can help. Since we launched this initiative 8 weeks ago we’ve seen incredible support from the community, from the hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers, from our colleagues in the Ministry of Transportation, and from our friends at Habitat for Humanity. Now the hard work begins and we can start to pay it forward.”
-Sandra Pupatello, MPP for Windsor West.

“I'm pleased to say that the people of Windsor Essex have really thrown their support behind this exciting opportunity. We've been able to expand the pilot project from 30 properties to 55 properties, allowing us to recycle and reuse even more materials, greening our community and supporting local housing initiatives."
-Ed Link, Committee Chair, WE Pay it Forward.

“Most non-profit and charitable organizations have very limited budgets and often no budgets at all. Habitat is very pleased to be a partner in this initiative to recover and salvage reusable materials from these homes, both inside and out, prior to their demolition. Not only will “WE Pay It Forward” be environmentally responsible, but it will also assist many Windsor and Essex County groups, Habitat included, in fulfilling their missions in this community.”
- Laura Gould, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex Inc.
